Are Cars Selling For More Than MSRP?

Demand is High

After delaying purchases through the worst of 2020’s COVID-19-related lockdowns, they’ve been heading out to dealership lots in search of new wheels. New wheels that just aren’t there. That has pushed prices to record highs.

The price advertised plus GST is the law.

All-in pricing is the law in Alberta. That means when an AMVIC-licensed seller advertises the price of a vehicle it must include ALL fees and charges the seller intends to charge.

How much above MSRP should I pay for a car?

You should expect to pay no more than 5% above the invoice price. If you do, you shouldn’t take the deal and go elsewhere. Car dealers may say they make only 12% on the invoice price from the MSRP, but with the incentives, that number is doubled usually.
