Can You Unswaddle Cold Turkey?

For most, the decision to stop swaddling comes at about 4 to 5 months when baby learns how to roll. With my firstborn, we had a fairly smooth transition from using a muslin swaddle blanket to no swaddling cold turkey. She was 8 weeks old and started getting wriggly and getting one arm out of her swaddle.

How can I get my baby to sleep without being swaddled?

How do you transition out of a swaddle?

  1. Start by swaddling your baby with one of her arms out of the swaddle.
  2. A few nights later after she’s gotten used to having one arm out, move on to swaddling her with both of her arms free.
  3. A few nights after that, stop using the swaddle blanket altogether.

How long does it take for baby to transition out of swaddle?

You’ll eventually need to transition your baby out of a swaddle, when they’re about 3 to 5 months old.
